I’ve been pretty amazed at the support I’ve gotten after this post. I’ve gotten a few emails from friends that they are in the same boat or have been there before. I’m so optimistic that I will do this and then my trip will be that much better!

Unless someone has been there, it is impossible to explain. My mom was one of my closest friends. We talked every day that was possible once she was diagnosed. It’s such a hole, but I also know she would not want any of us to stay sad over our loss. So that’s why I’m hoping that focusing on the happy times and positive aspects of my life will help balance out the sadness of the loss.

Great insight, Lisa! I’m glad you’ve been able to start healing. I totally agree with you, after I lost my dad, I find myself laughing or smiling about little things throughout the day. Perhaps this part of the healing process, in that we remember the good times and are grateful for time spend together. It’s always tough, but stay positive and things will get better over time.

That’s awesome Lisa! As a fellow Irishman, I hope to some day visit Dublin with my family as well. I’ve spent time in France, Italy and others, but nothing like seeing where your roots came from. Dust off that passport, you will have a blast!

I love your perspective on this, L. May you enjoy every minute leading up to this trip as much as the trip itself! I personally find much of the fun of trips is based on the anticipation!
