Over the last several weeks I have gotten my hands into some things I never thought I’d touch – like CSS and PHP. I had heard these terms thrown around at work – I do work at a software company after all. But I am a program manager – my focus is to work with the development organization to successfully deliver features to the market. Even in more technical past roles, my job has never been to touch code.
This job has been a bit different – it started slowly when I took ownership of the Confluence site for our team. I am responsible for some minor coding – with the cheat sheet right on the screen. I also work with our in-house technical operations group and my understanding of technology has increased. That said, I never thought I would ever edit code. I am a Psych major with an MBA in Marketing.
The other day I retweeted an article about the anxiety one may feel when publishing a blog post. I definitely fall into this category and despite reading and rereading, there are times a post gets published with a grammar error or misspelling. When you own the post, you can edit and republish.
With code, you learn another language. I still have the opportunity to edit and republish the pages for the site, but when there are errors, I can’t always tell where they are or why. Since I am not a developer, I turned to both the Twitter community and the blogs to find support in how to get one simple thing accomplished – the insertion of my custom blog header designed by my friend Anne.
It was a group effort, but my blog now has a header. Thx to all who stepped up and helped out! As a result, some of my other writing has been pushed back. I now expect to publish the next Friday Finds on Friday 1/15/10.
Until then …
