Five Finds – Beachy & Handmade

by Lisa on January 15, 2010

It seems that this cold snap just won’t end! In the Boston area, we are hearing that it will break for this weekend and we might even hit the 40s. I like to dream about days on the Beach to cope with the freezing temperatures.

To help with those daydreams, I’ve picked handmade items from Etsy the make me think of the Beach. In alphabetical order by shop name, here are Five Finds:

1. Beach Chik DesignsLeave Only Footprints

Leave Only Footprints Coasters

These tumbled marble coaster serve as a reminder to leave only your footprints behind when you leave the beach. Beach Chik Designs creates decor for the home that reflects the ocean. This shop also contains items for little ones as the owner has a little guy that inspires a lot of her work. Beach Chik Designs can be found on Facebook. On a charitable note, 10% of the Profit for the sale of these coasters will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation. Beach Chik has a shop on Etsy and a fan page on Facebook.

In addition to the Etsy shop, Monkey Foot Designs has a Fan Page on Facebook and a blog.

A favorite activity when walking along the beach is picking up stones, sea glass or sea shells. This beautiful 8×10″ frame includes charcoal beach stones set against the white stained frame. With the neutral design, this frame can contain anything from a treasured family photo to pictures from a recent vacation. Pear Tree Mosaics can be found on Etsy.

5. SeashapedSea Glass Sterling Silver Necklace

ETERNAL - SOFT SEAFOAM GREEN Sea Glass STERLING Silver CIRCLE NECKLACE

This delicate necklace incorporates a piece of seafoam green sea glass within a hammered sterling silver ring. According to the artist, this design is one of her best selling pieces at local art shows. Jewelry makes up most items in this artist’s collection, but other listed pieces include serving pieces and wine charms. A web site includes some of her works not listed on the Etsy shop.

All artists profiled have been contacted prior to publishing this week’s finds. Please note that all photographs are the property of the original artist.

In an update to previous posts, the schedule for posting Five Finds has changed. There is no more schedule! Original posts were delivered each Friday and focused on items on Etsy. My finds may now come from the area of travel and philanthropy as well and will be posted when I find items I want to share.
